Network Operations Center
Real-time hop-by-hop monitoring from Helendale to the Internet via County UIA infrastructure
Path Status Overview
UIA Network Path (Primary)
Primary internet path through San Bernardino County Office of Education infrastructure
District Office, Elementary School, Secondary School
VLAN 270 - County WAN Entry Point
UIA network transport toward the SBCSS handoff
UIA core, Helendale traffic in its own routing instance
Handoff from UIA to the county network, OSPF adjacency 10.1.255.29 to 10.1.255.30
New Chaffey firewall, internal interface
New Chaffey firewall, outside interface
County egress to CENIC at the Chaffey site
Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California
Public internet - Google DNS
Egress: This path hands off to the county at Chaffey and exits through the new Chaffey firewall to CENIC. It does not egress at Roy C. Hill.
Baseline: Healthy latency across the Chaffey hops is 8 to 12 ms. Sustained values well above that are worth investigating.
Fragile link: The UIA to SBCSS OSPF adjacency at Chaffey has failed before with both interfaces still up. If this path is dead while the port shows up, suspect the adjacency and contact SBCSS NetSupport.
ICMP blocking: Some county internal hops may show OFFLINE because they do not answer pings, yet still route traffic correctly.
Path status: UIA is considered ONLINE if the gateway (10.1.253.1) and the internet (8.8.8.8) are both reachable.
Frontier Path (Backup)
Backup internet path - provides failover if UIA path becomes unavailable
District Office, Elementary School, Secondary School
VLAN 256, direct Frontier circuit toward Roy C. Hill
San Bernardino, this path egresses here and does not transit Chaffey
Public internet by way of the Roy C. Hill egress
Separate exit: Frontier rides its own circuit from Helendale to SBCSS Roy C. Hill in San Bernardino and egresses there. It does not share an exit with the UIA path.
Status: Reported unchanged by the Chaffey cutover, pending written confirmation from SBCSS.
