Each site's agent traces the road it is using right now, so a road lights up wherever a site is carrying traffic on it. A road nobody is using shows its hops dimmed, but its status pill still reflects whether the sites could fail over to it, judged by the agents' end to end probes and the switches' uplink ports.
Gateway pings are not used for any status here: the county firewalls do not answer them while traffic flows normally.
Since the September 12, 2026 cutover
SBCSS moved Helendale onto its own virtual firewalls. UIA traffic passes the Chaffey firewall (inside 10.2.250.30) and reaches CENIC at 163.150.224.1; Frontier traffic passes the San Bernardino firewall (inside 10.1.250.30) and reaches CENIC at 163.150.15.189. The two roads exit with different public addresses, and each site's verified exit is shown on its card.
The retired addresses 10.2.22.1 and 163.150.232.254 no longer appear on any trace.
